old desktop computer - need router or will modem do

The only reason for a router is to have more than 1 device to go to the internet. The device can be anything with a network card (phones, tablets, tvs, etc)

If the computer is close to the modem, it will only need 1 Ethernet cord, providing the computer has an Ethernet card.
