I haven't found traceroutes the best method of ping testing... They look at where the packet bounces to and from, and returns that data. Try something like Pingtest.net or Speedtest.net
For me, Google loads nearly instantly with a cleared cache, but when I try to do a traceroute, I get 2800 ms. For a direct ping, that goes through all layers to the desired source, use something like "ping" on command prompt.
