the main factor is the download speeds (for web surfing downloading etc)

With ADSL - you also do not get the quoted speeds - its usually upto - unless the company have told you that is the speed you will get
it could be 80% of the speed

Also the upload speed can play a factor on games and the upload speed will be again be less on the ADSL figures then the cable
If you still have the cable broadband running - use a cable between the PC and the modem/router and use www.speedtest.net and test the down/up load speeds you are currently getting
and then ask the ADSL ISP what they expect you to get and to do a test on the line for adsl
The difference in the router speeds of 100 (1Mb) v 1000 (IGb) will only be noticed on the internal network - so if transferring files between PCs for example, having a lot of PCs connected and streaming / copying across the network
its the internal speed of the network
