netgear WNDR3700v3 router with a solid amber power light

thanks for all of input. I tried the factory reset option and that did not fix the router.

I will tell him that he has a new doorstop and that he should go shopping for a new router.

If I could ask one more question - could you recommend a router for him to get? he has a desktop, a tablet and a smartphone. he watches a lot of Netflix on a TV and on the tablet. he does not play a lot of games. his daughter has a computer that has one of those wireless adapters that plugs into the USB slot.
