Windows 8.1 - Connection Issues

Hello, I recently bought a Windows 8.1 computer. (I received it a day ago and have had these problems since the start.)

I have a ARRIS / Motorola SB6121 SURFboard Cable Modem and a Netgear WNDR3400 N600 Dual Band Wireless Router.

I have been having connection issues with my Windows 8.1 computer where the mbps go from 72 to 5.5 and a few places. I have 4 out of 5 bars most of the time. It does drop down to 3 out of 5 sometimes. The MBPS sometimes goes back up, but I have had to restart my computer to fix the problem a few times.

I had a Dell - Windows 7 Laptop and I didn't have this problem before. In my household we have 3 Laptops, the other two connect fine.(Although, They did have connection problems on the day I set up this laptop, but I assumed most of this was caused by a storm we were having, but it could have been otherwise.) We have a PS3 and Xbox 360. Both of them aren't having any issues.

I have McAfee LiveSafe - Internet Security.

I am connected using Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. I have manually updated Broadcom to try and see if that would help. It didn't seem to do anything.

I would love some help if anyone could give me some.
