For the last few weeks our internet has been dropping out and then coming back on again. We can hear the router reset itself, although sometimes it has to be done manually.
I am on ADSL and the speed test is around 12Mbs which is normal.
The first router, a Thomson TG784, belongs to our ISP and is not exactly accessible. It is placed in a communication box for some strange reason. As we already had a Draytek 2820 that we used before switching to IPTV we had that connected from the connection in our office. This then supplies all the PCs around the house via TP link homehubs as wireless is not good in concrete buildings. Only one laptop is able to run wirelessly. The setup has run perfectly for over three years.
Our ISP have said the router is fine, meaning their router. We have asked them to come and check the phone line as ours is routed through a tree! Not our tree so we can't prune it and we don't know who the owner is. It is noticeable that if it is windy and wet that the disconnections happen more frequently.
I did try and connect the first router direct to a PC but it is not seeing a network. The settings that were done were quite complicated to allow for port forwarding and I don't want to touch anything as networking is not my strong point and I don't want to make things worse.
How do I know if it is my router that is the problem? It is about 6 years old.
Thanks in advance.
