So I have very little experience with computer problems and I never know how to fix them myself. So like you might have guessed I am facing a new problem that needs solving!
My parents recently bought a new modem from xs4all because our old Ziggo internet wasn't working properly. It would randomly go off and it just wasn't very fast all around. So our neighbourhood got new glass fiber for all homes including ours. So we thought it might be time for a new modem for faster internet speed.
Now the speed of the internet is usually fine but occasionally the ping seems to go skyhigh which I especially notice when I am gaming. I play Leauge of Legends but it has become unplayable right now just because of the risk my ping will go very high for a few minutes somewhere in the game (usually more then once in a game) and the overall ping isn't too good either (around 100 ping average). Sometimes it goes doen to 15 but sometimes it goes up to 3000, it really differs form day to day. The weird thing is though, that I mainly have this problem when I am gaming. When I go to speedtest.net it says my ping is 7 ms eventhough in game it says I am at around 100. When I take my laptop to my own room (I am a student and only at my parents in the weekends/vacations) and I use the wifi there it works fine. So I believe the problem lays with my router/modem and not the game. So I have searched the internet for a bit but most 'solutions' didn't really work for me. And yes I have turned my modem off for 10 seconds and that kind of stuff.
Does anybody know what problem I am facing? Should I call the provider to fix it or is it something I can simply fix by changing some settings? And if so how do I do that?
Please help me out guys I am really not a tech-guy!
Thanks in advance!
