hi guys,
had an old eircom (silverbox) netopia router that i had in bridged mode connected to my netgear firewall
was working fine, had a cable running from my modem to the wan port on the firewall and then another cable
to my 40 port switch. From what i remember the silver modem was not accessible in the usual way via cable
when in bridge mode (Couldnt change any settings etc) and the firewall actually handled the connection
then my modem blew and they sent me out a newer one...a black one that is still very accessible even after being set
to bridge mode. My firewall sees the connection and looks like it is actually seeing or making the connection to the ISP.
in status it has an IP address subnet mask etc etc...looks like it always did...but i dont have any connectivity...and i cant ping an outside address.
strange thing is that in the network settings on my network in the task tray it says internet but also says unidentified network no access. i set the new modem to the same as my old modem 10.0.0.23 and my server is handling dns etc
on the client side dns default gateway etc all look normal, but no internet. if i bypass the firewall its fine...
how should i configure this? should i let the modem make the connection to the isp normally and let it push to the firewall? i just dont have anymore ideas..was at it trying to configure the modem and was trying everything this afternoon for about 3 hours..was so easy the first time round.
my tracert sees all internal devices, i can mstsc the server and ping the router and everything...yet no internet...
i dont remember there being any rules to configure on the firewall first to get internet as all outgoing looks open
im really stumped...any ideas please
