TD-W8980 failed to verify router settings

Hi there, am having problems setting up and connecting to the internet with this new modem/router, TD-W8980. I did talk to overseas call centre but they were not able to help before my phone ran out of battery. When I connect my old netcomm wireless the internet works fine. The reason I updated is my Sonos stereo system will not work with the net comm.
I go thru the setup on the cd and all is fine till the last bit and I receive the following message.
1 "Successfully configured router"
2 "Failed to verify router settings"
Another window pops up stating
1 "Please check the WAN connection type and parameters"
2 "Please check your network connectivity and retry"
At this point all the lights are correct but I have no internet. I did go onto the site for the modem/router and tried to fix this but now if I have the new modem connected I cannot even get onto that site.
Anyone please help as I am pulling my hair out !!!!!!!!!!!!
