You should still look into updating the firmware and also updating the drivers on the affected laptop. You also may want to look at the power settings on the laptop to ensure the wireless NIC is running at 100% performance and not powered down to save power.
The other possibility is the wireless card might be going bad or it just isn't compatible with the wireless router for some reason. I have a couple of devices on my home network which seem finicky about connecting to my wireless network. |
