If you got the triple play from verizon your phone will now be on the "aerial" line into the house which is fiber optic. The buried cable phone line is copper and can no longer be used,. We had nothing but trouble from Comcast they actually almost called me a lier for something one of their dishonest techs did. Verizon treats me like a KIng. Comcast sales agents were telling people in my neighborhood that Comcast internet was faster than FIOS. And Comcast is fiber too, yeah somewhere they have a 8 foot section of fiber in their network. There is no way coax can be as fast or faster the fiber. I do know that both in certain areas lease their services to each other where Comcast comes in on fiber and verizon uses cable the ones I encountered were way out in the country and it was verizon on cable. I have heard about the other comcast on fiber never have seen it and probably is rare and I probably never will since I am no longer a field tech. Yes verizon is not perfect they do stuff too but in my opinion they are more stable in their technology and their outlook towards the customer and products. BTW what are you doing with FIOS I thought you were a long life comcast user?
