Hi everyone,
I have just moved into a new house and it appears to have been extensively networked (thankfully all labelled!) and I would like some educated advice on the potential of what I have and how to best utilise the network.
On the ground floor I have x14 off Ethernet ports, with a further x8 off on the first floor. I have traced all of these back to the master bedroom where all of them are hard wired into a 48 port patch panel (BICC Brand Rex). From the research I have done I assume that this panel was previously connected to a switch which was connected to the previous owner's modem(?).
I have Virgin Media fibre optic internet coming into the living room. I am currently using their Super Hub (SH) as my modem/wireless router. Would I be right in thinking that I would have to purchase a switch and connect it to the patch panel and SH to fully utilise the system?
Any help or advise that can be given would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Jon
