Just insure that you have backed up all data that you want to an external source. After the install is complete visit HP's support site for your model and download drivers (Windows will install generic drivers to get you going) and also run Windows update.

This was something of a nuclear option, but it does seem to have fixed things. Thanks again for all of your help!
