I would trust D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, TP-Link, TrendNet and AirLink101 more than a less well known brand. Belkin equipment is just as good, but in my opinion their quality control is less rigorous so you are more likely to get a poor performing unit.

When using a USB wireless adapter with a desktop the most important thing in my opinion is its location relative to the router or access point. If plugging it into the desired port will "hide" it from the signal then get one with a cable so that it can be placed more advantageously.
