An "internet disconnect" means that somewhere between your ISP and your computer(s) there is a break in the "pipe." Maybe in the phone lines leading to your place, maybe in your internal phone wiring, maybe between your modem and your computer, etc. And, yes, I know it is not like a water pipe breaking, because it is intermittent. Given what you had said I had inferred (maybe that should be incorrectly assumed) that the break was somewhere between the ISP and the ethernet port of your modem.
