So, I'm having a problem with my router; I can access the internet just fine when only one device is connected, but as soon as another laptop, cell phone, tablet, or whatever connects to the internet, it doesn't work for anybody, and when I troubleshoot, it says it's an error with the DNS server.
I've tried several things from setting my laptop to connect OpenDNS's server address automatically, setting my router to use those (I placed them in Static DNS 1 and Static DNS 2), resetting both the router and the modem, and nothing seems to work.
A few more details are that I use a N-300 Netgear router and Brighthouse's Lightning Router/Modem combo, but I have the wireless turned off. The Netgear Router is using DD-WRT firmware to run everything. Whenever I have two devices connected and cannot access the internet, I can ping 8.8.8.8 just fine, but when I ping google.com no connection happens. I used to have both the router and the modem/router running as DHCP servers, which worked fine for a while but then all of the sudden stopped. Then I turned off the DHCP server on the router, and just set it up in repeater mode, and that worked for a while, but then all of the sudden stopped working. Right now the wireless is off on the modem/router, and I have the router setup as the only DHCP server and I believe my friend put it in switch mode or something like that... I don't remember. It worked fine for a day, and then when I woke up, I'm having the problem described.
I've tried just letting the brighthouse modem/router being the only router, but for some reason my laptop just won't connect to it (and yes, the modem/router is BGN compatible). Also, I'd like to be able to use the netgear router because it has a bit more range.
So if you need any more details, just let me know. I hope there's a fix.
