What is the model of the Technicolor modem/router?
Does it support WDS? It must support WDS for the WNR2000v3 to connect as a repeater.

As terrynet wrote signal strength is all important.
The Netgear must be in a location where it gets a fairly good signal from the router.
Is there a sheltered place about half way between the modem and your apartment where your laptop gets a good signal and you can place the Netgear?

Possible Scenario - Modem in room at front of house. Apartment in detached garage in back of house does not get good signal, but the rear room of house which has a window facing the garage does get a good signal. Locate the Netgear in the window of the rear room that is facing the garage.
