No, don't bother posting the info now. My theory is that the network was using a channel that the netbook's adapter supports but that the laptop's adapter does not. This most frequently happens in a region such as Europe where channels 1 - 13 are used and the adapter is set for North America (channels 1 - 11). A channel 12 or 13 network would be invisible to a "North America" adapter. (This is just an example.)
Sometimes, but only sometimes, the channels or region will be shown on the Advanced tab of the Properties window of the adapter in Device Manager. If you can find this on either or both of your PCs, what is/are the value(s)?
