Check to make sure that your LAN adapter is not manually set to an IP or DNS for both IPv4 and IPv6 (should be set to obtain automatically)
Also when you pulled the second ipconfig (modem direct to computer) you did not powercycle the modem and or computer. You might want to give that a try. Anytime you are changing devices that are directly connected to the modem (surfboard) you need to powercycle the modem and the connecting device.
