I'm an IT admin for a small company. We have a MDF in our server room, with 4 IDF's scattered throughout the building. We use fibre to connect these IDF to MDF.
I'm pretty good with ethernet cabling, but very new to Fibre. I have a catalyst 2960 Cisco switch which has a 1000baseSX SFP connector directly into the switch fibre port. We also have some of the switches connected with a Unicomm box that takes the fibre *different connection type* and spits it out as RJ45.
I'm curious to know what type of connectors we need, as well as the type of fibre. Do we have to buy the connectors AND the fibre? Should the fibre be able to be "plugged in" to the connectors we buy or do they come as one integrated set. Any advice for this is greatly apprecaited.
